Keeping your train chugging along is absolutely essential in Dead Sails, because if you run out of fuel, you're stuck, and you do not want that to happen at night. This guide is all about the different kinds of fuel you can find scattered around the world, which ones give you the most bang for your buck, and how to keep that firebox roaring.
To effectively fuel your train and survive the long haul in Dead Sails, you need to know which items burn the longest and keep that firebox fed. Pretty much anything flammable (and some things that maybe shouldn't be) can be shoved into your train's firebox to keep it moving in Dead Sails.
You'll find stuff lying around in buildings, out in the open, and sometimes, you might even need to use… unconventional sources such as corpses. But not all fuel is created equal. Some items will barely get you down the track, while others will keep you going for kilometers.
Let's cut to the chase: what should you really be looking for?
When Coal isn't available, you'll need to make do with other items. Here's a rough idea of how far other common (and not-so-common) items will get you:
As you can see, sticking to Coal is ideal, but items like barrels, chairs, and even bodies can keep you going when needed. Using bodies might feel weird, but when you're stranded, you do what you gotta do! But basically hunt for any item that has the label Fuel when you highlight the object, as this is what you should be using to fuel your train!
Fueling the train is simple:
Seriously, keeping your train fueled is the most critical part of staying alive. Running out leaves you stranded, vulnerable, and possibly facing a terrifying night stuck in the middle of nowhere. Never let your fuel run out, especially when it's getting dark! Always try to have extra fuel stored on your train or cart.
